A Brief History of Imperial Stouts

Image
Since we're all trapped by this Gee Dee Icepocalypse in Indiana, we thought we'd release another episode to help ease the pain of being stuck inside with family members all day until football comes on later tonight. No need to thank us, we're just doing what we can to make the world a better place. The beer style this bi-week is "Russian" Imperial Stouts. There is a startling amount of discussion regarding the history of the style. I know that's odd for us and you, but we thought we'd try something a little different. First up, we have from Shoreline Brewing out of Michigan City Indiana - Worker bee barrel-aged honey imperial stout. Followed then by Stillwater Artisanal Beers out of Maryland - Surround Imperial Oak Smoked Wheat Stout.

Inside Adam's Brain

Image
Have you ever wanted to know how Adam's brain works? Well, we asked him to take a short beer survey from Buzzfeed and record his thoughts. This is what happened. (Please note, this is note our quiz it come from Buzzfeed and was created by Kimberly Wang. Should you want to learn what kind of beer you are click here ) Like most humans, I commonly find myself pondering important questions, such as how to become a Jedi or why the hell is Nickelback still around? Like, is it easy to make a deal with the devil or something? Anyways, today's important question: (I appreciate the legal drinking age warning, totes going to stop the younglings). I can finally know the answer to my burning question, a burning question that doesn't require a doctor's inspection! If you are still reading, here goes: As ‘beer only’ isn't an option, looks like I'll have to go with tacos. I'm all cultured and sh**/the bell always goes goo...

Smokes & Chasers

Image
Our purpose here at Thespeakpodcast is primarily beer. Specifically, the drinking thereof and the (far less important) subsequent discussion and review. "Indy beer. Indie beer." See? It's right there in our motto. Twice. Now, that's not to say that we don't have other hobbies...which incidentally can also be indulged while drinking beer. As you might have guessed from the title, I'm here today to talk about smoking whilst drinking, as a few of the podcast members are wont to do. We'll get into specific beer and cigar pairings in later posts. For now, let's start with some basics. Beer has a number of points in its favor to accompany a cigar when compared to other types of libation, including: - Its price-point, which is substantially lower than the traditional choices (bourbon, scotch, brandy, etc.) - Its versatility, with flavor profiles able to properly compliment or contrast any cigar on the market - Its relative mildness, which, whe...

A New Years Eve With Broken Beaker

Image
Put the kids to bed early, or plug in the headphones if you're in the office. We decided to let our hair down and talk about some more adult topics and perhaps a swear word or two worked its way in to this episode. This year we celebrate with Mathew Muncy and our friends at Broken Beaker Distillery. We talk holiday cocktails, and have some discussion about "popular" New Years Eve Traditions. Sit back, relax, and we'll see if this is the year Adam's balls finally drop.

A Very Taxman Christmas, featuring Anchor

Image
Gather the family round the Yule log and let the soothing sounds of this years Christmas Special bring the whole family together. Unless, of course, you actually care about your family. Our special Christmas beers come from Taxman and Anchor brewing. While both are solid beers, what beer did you leave for Santa this year?

Blondes and the great Labatt revolt!

Image
In this, our latest installment, Adam teaches us all about meat. Or all he knows about meat. Or how Adam thinks your order meat. Adam used English words, but his understanding of the words he uses is nearly non-existent. We have a pretty positive review of Central State's House beer, and our out-of-towner this week genuinely impressed the group; Six Point Brewery's C.R.E.A.M. Coffee Blonde. Canadians are running out of beer! Tune in and see how you can help, buddy. And... Adam craps his pants on air.

A Cardinal Spirits Thanksgiving Day Super Fail

Image
It's Thanksgiving! And for those of you looking to enjoy spending quality time with family huddled around a computer or smart device listening to your favorite podcast, we're here for you. Or, sink the podcast up with the Macy's Day Parade and see what that sounds like (spoiler alert: they don't sync up). As is it Thanksgiving, we blew the budget and brought in special celebrity guest, Matt Muncy from Indiana on Tap. Instead of the traditional maize, he brought us booze from Cardinal Spirits Black Bear Bierschnaps and Walnut Nocino and Teddy Bear Kisses from Upland Brewing . Be forewarned, this is probably more fun than your normal Thanksgiving table conversation, but there is an equal amount of cross-talk and argument as well. Due to radio magic, there is however less swearing! We also let Adam "free-hand" his microphone. Note to self(es), never ever again.
